1. The worst humanitarian crisis of the century is unfolding in Yemen right now, and efforts to negotiate an end to the conflict have so far failed badly. The Intercept's Alex Emmons just published a hugely important story explaining partly why that is, and it lands at the feet of the current U.S. ambassador to Yemen, Matthew Tueller.
Stories about Yemen are hard to get people to read, but I think you'll find this one is worth your time. It's here: https://theintercept.com/2017/12/13/yemen-war-peace-talks-matthew-tueller/
Please read and share widely.
2. An update on our story yesterday about EMILY's List and Planned Parenthood staying strangely out of a Democratic primary race that pits a pro-choice progressive woman against an anti-choice conservative man: EMILY's List is still not commenting, but Planned Parenthood inched toward an endorsement of Marie Newman, giving us this statement about the race: "It's essential to elect people who will be champions for reproductive health and rights. We've seen over the years that Rep. Dan Lipinski has not been a champion for women or women's rights, and in fact has only a 23 percent voting record rating from the Planned Parenthood Action Fund."

3. I meant to send this out earlier this week, but this story we did about Texas troopers pulling over motorists and breaking families apart is breathtaking. It's based on dashcam videos we got through open records requests.
4. And on Doug Jones' stunning (to some people) upset, you'll be pleased to know I won an office bet, and have a kabob plate from the kabob truck near our building coming my way next week. McConnell's game now will be to keep him out of the Senate as long as possible so they can ram the tax bill through. Here's our story on how the black vote lifted Jones over the top.
5. The fight over control of the CFPB is not over! David Dayen with the latest.
You're getting this email because you either signed up for it or you took a survey and opted in to this newsletter -- or, probably, you declined to opt out. Either way, I hope you're enjoying it. I'm the Washington bureau chief at The Intercept, and I send this several times a week. If you see an ad here, it's there because sending mass emails turns out to be really expensive. I'm not making any money off of it; it goes to the email service provider and just defrays the cost a bit. If you want to contribute directly to help keep the thing running, you can do so here, though be warned a donation comes with no tote bags or extra premium content or anything. Or you can buy a copy of Out of the Ooze: The Story of Dr. Tom Price, the first book put out by Strong Arm Press, a small progressive publishing house I cofounded. If somebody forwarded you this note, you can sign up to start getting your own copy here.
